Props

Dynasty Warriors 6: Lu Xun (Heavy Weapon)

One of our first props, fully made by Hubs (Raion) actually. He carved the details out of 6 pieces of A1-sized black mermaid paper. The gold details on the handle is craftfoam, whereas the handle is wrapped with leather and siam red cords. The ring at the bottom is an actual metal ring molded in with paper mache and then attached with red cords and a vintage jade nugget. Every painted part you see here are all hand-painted because I am not proficient with spray paints.

Sword Length: 90 cm

Blazblue: Jin Kisaragi (Yukianesa)

Second prop in line was Jin Kisaragi's Yukianesa. The challenging thing about this prop is the curved sword AND the curved sheath. It took alot of trial and error to get it right and we remembered it barely made the deadline for our Blazblue debut on AFA 2013. The painting and weathering was hell and the emerald green cord wrapping on the handle almost made me broke down in tears (although yes, I did reference to sword handle tying guides online...). The handle base was wrapped with individual lengths of silver pleather, the round "screw" components were silver studs and buttons painted over. The sheath, on the other hand, were individual rings of craftfoam linked together with masking tape and then reinforced with paper mache and lots of white latex glue.

Sword Length: 112cm
Sheath Length: 82cm

Sword Art Online: Kirito (Elucidator)

The next sword we made was a dual blade-edge experiment - Elucidator. Hubs got some scrap foamboard salvaged from his workplace and part of it formed the main body of Elucidator. Mermaid paper was used to form and reinforce both the blade and the handle before paper mache was applied to it. Elucidator turned out to be a beautiful matte shade of black, quite akin to the matte finish of the Bat Mobile. I can't exactly remember the combination of FolkArt acrylics I used but amongst them there's two metallics - Sequin Black and Gunmetal, the others include the pigments of Wrought Iron and Navy Blue. The silver portions are SEMCO Platinum Silver and Silver Metallic. For the cross-section at the base of the handle, black pleather strips are used to form it.

The sheath is a combination of mermaid paper and paper mache, painted over with base coats of Daler Rowney Graduate Acrylic - Black and finished off with the Pearl Black pigment from the same brand.

Sword Length: 117cm
Sheath Length: 86cm

Fate/Extra: Saber Nero (Aestus Estus)

Aestus Estus was built for my Saber Nero's debut appearance at ICDS Runway Show 2015. First time employing the blue foam technique here to form the complicated curves on this sword. Base paint used was Daler Rowney Graduate Acrylic - Cadmium Red Deep. Metallics are from FolkArt - Sequin Black, Garnet Red and Bright Red.

Sword Length: 131cm

Sword Art Online: Asuna (Lament Light)

Debuted my Asuna at AFA 2015 just recently and we managed to work out Lament Light within a short span of 2 weeks or less. Corrugated board, black mermaid paper, pink craft foam and paper mache formed the base of this sword. Paints used are KCK Titanium White Acrylic for the base coat, FolkArt Sky Blue, SEMCO Silver Metallic, Daler Rowney Graduate Acrylic Pearl White and Maimeri Acrylic Platinum White were used for the rest of the colouring.

Acrylic clear and sapphire blue gems were used to stud the decorative parts of the sword.

The sheath was created shortly after Boxing Day. Made of mermaid paper and paper mache, we saw open it with a coping saw after it had set and had the insides painted with a base coat of white and 3 layers of Daler Rowney Pearl White.

Afterwhich, we patched it back together with paper mache. A red base coat was applied, followed by FolkArt pigments of Berry Wine and Cardinal Red.

The decorations were hand-molded out of white jumping clay and applied with a white base coat, followed by FolkArt pigments of Ash and Metallic Sterling Silver. Vintage teardrop-shaped acrylic gems and clear iron-ons completed the whole setup.

Sword Length: 114cm

FFXV: Noctis (Engine Sword)

Our very first client commission, the Engine Sword was completed a little after six months. This little Goliath was a structure of complexities and hair-tearing minute details, but we gained alot of prop-making experience after this sword actually because it had made us explore so many possibilities and design solutions. We really like the handiwork we've rendered on this Engine Sword and hope his wielder feel the same too!

The Engine Sword is made of basic materials like corrugated board, normal A3 printing paper, 450gsm mermaid paper, paper mache, frosted and transparent transparency, craftfoam, silver studs, water-based sealant, latex glue, jumping clay, student grade acrylics and SIGNO broad uniball silver pen.

Client Height: 165cm

Sword Length: 130cm

Owari No Seraph: Hiiragi Shinya (Byakkomaru)

Soon to debut Hiiragi Shinya from "Owari No Seraph"! Started work on his rifle - Byakkomaru early this year from corrugated board, craftfoam, paper mache and jumping clay. His bayonet is made of the same materials as well and is made removable, as it's with the siam red leather strap with rose gold plated clasps.

Paints used are student grade acrylics and glow-in-the-dark acrylics.

Length: 90cm

Blazblue: Noel Vermillion (Bolverk)

Bolverk was the first firearm I made and I referenced these twin guns off the construction of a Desert Eagle. The difficult part for these pair of guns is, of course, making them identical to one another. I sketched their schematics on graph paper before transferring them onto the following materials - corrugated board, black mounting board and white craft foam. Subsequently, they were reinforced with paper mache and applied with many coats of Graphicolor White Acrylic, FolkArt Titanium White and lots of latex glue. The black portions are applied with FolkArt Metallic Sequin Black, whereas the silver portions on the butt are SEMCO Silver Metallic weathered over with FolkArt Gunmetal Metallic. The handles are brown craft foam sealed with FolkArt Metallic Solid Bronze at the edges and overlayed with brown pleather. The decorative "screws" are button-making molds.

Gun Length: 40cm
Gun Width: 9cm
